The Sir Edward Youde Memorial (SEYM) Fund Council is offering the following awards. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong sense of commitment to Hong Kong and should be able to contribute significantly to the society after graduation from overseas studies.

As the premier organization in the field, the Cognitive Science Society is dedicated to promoting cognitive science as a discipline and fostering scientific interchange among researchers from various areas of study. The CogSci 2023 main conference (https://cognitivesciencesociety.org/cogsci-2023/) brings together a diverse group of scholars from around the globe who share a common goal: understanding the nature of the human mind.

To encourage face-to-face interactions and strengthen connections among local Hong Kong researchers and students with a keen interest in cognitive science, we are hosting the CogSci 2023 Hong Kong Meetup & Workshop - Cognition, Language, and AI, at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). We welcome individuals with an interest in cognitive science to attend or present at the Meetup, regardless of their registration status with the CogSci 2023 main conference.

The Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers (“the Scholarship”) is one of a series of measures to enhance the professionalism of English teachers in Hong Kong. It aims to attract persons proficient in English to pursue relevant local bachelor degree programmes and / or teacher training programmes which will qualify them to become English teachers on graduation. The Scholarship is tenable for the normal duration of the intended study programmes. Upon graduation, awardees have to undertake to teach English full-time in primary or secondary schools in Hong Kong (day schools offering a formal curriculum). For awardees on undergraduate degree programmes, the duration of teaching obligation is three years.

The Scholarship (2023/24) will be open for applications from 9 to 18 August 2023. Only applicants who will pursue year one study in relevant study programmes starting from the 2023/24 school year are eligible to apply for the Scholarship. Hence, schools are requested to notify students who are interested in the Scholarship of its details so that students could be reminded to reprioritise their JUPAS programme choices, if necessary, after the release of results for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination. The Rhodes Scholarship, the oldest international scholarship programme, is a fully funded, full time, postgraduate award which enables talented young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford.

There is one Rhodes Scholarship available for Hong Kong SAR.

Coverage of the Scholarship
The basic tenure of the Scholarship is two years, subject to satisfactory academic performance and personal conduct. A Rhodes Scholarship covers the University course fees, University application fee, an annual stipend, one economy class airfare to and from Oxford at the beginning and end of studies in Oxford, etc.

Our Esther Yewpick Lee Millennium Scholar 2023, Tang Xuzhen was awarded a full scholarship to further pursue a Master of Philosophy in Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics at Oxford University in Fall 2023. This prestigious scholarship is exclusively offered to CUHK final-year students or alumni. The Scholarship is tenable for three years to cover all the university and college fees at Oxford and an annual personal allowance to take care of board and lodging and other maintenance costs. Return airfare to the United Kingdom will also be provided.
