The CUHK French Programme, in collaboration with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao and the Institut français, is pleased to present French Night 2026: French Food & Movie Night.

Every year, French Night brings together students from the French Programme for an informal evening dedicated to French culinary and cinematic culture.
The evening will begin with a selection of authentic French savoury and sweet amuse-bouches prepared by a French chef based in Hong Kong. Participants will then be invited to enjoy a screening of the acclaimed film Au revoir les enfants (Goodbye, Children), directed by Louis Malle.

Set in Nazi-occupied France, Au revoir les enfants follows the friendship between two schoolchildren at a Catholic boarding school. One of them is secretly being sheltered from persecution by members of the school. Based partly on the director’s childhood experiences, this award-winning film explores friendship, courage, prejudice, and the consequences of intolerance.
Organized ahead of the International Day for Tolerance, this year’s French Night invites students to reflect on the importance of mutual understanding, respect, and solidarity through cinema.

The Crossing tells the story of Kyona and Adriel, two children forced to flee their homeland and embark on a remarkable journey across a continent marked by exile, persecution, and hope. Combining stunning hand-painted animation with a powerful coming-of-age story, the film offers a moving exploration of migration, resilience, and freedom.
