I am pleased to inform you that the Education Bureau (EDB) will continue to offer the Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers in 2026/27. The aim of the Scholarship is to attract persons proficient in English to pursue relevant local bachelor’s degree and/or teacher training programmes which will qualify them to become English language teachers on graduation.

Applications for Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers 2026/27 will be accepted in August 2026. Details about the application procedures and deadlines will be announced on EDB ‘s website in June 2026. Both local and non-local students who will pursue Year 1 study in relevant study programmes commencing from 2026/27 are eligible to apply. The list of eligible programmes of the various institutions is in Appendix 1.

The Scholarship in the amounts of HK$50,000 and HK$80,000 per annum for local and non-local undergraduate students respectively is tenable for the normative period of the study programme. For studying the Postgraduate Diploma in Education, local students will be awarded HK$50,000 for the whole programme whereas non-local students will be awarded HK$80,000.

A circular dated 20 November 2025 has been issued by the Secretary for Education to the Heads of all secondary schools to inform them of the Scholarship. For detailed information on the Scholarship, please refer to the information sheets in Appendix 2. The same may also be obtained
